Version 4.7 (build 554)

Added:

1. Possibility to run several sessions of Pop-Up Dictionary with different dictionaries.

2. Speech tab in the Options dialog box: you can select any SAPI4 or SAPI5 engine to pronounce the entry word.

3. Speech API options are saved for every dictionary. If there is a file, it is played, if no file is set for the current entry, the entry word is synthesized by the current speech engine.

4. You can call any Speech API engine from the translation field (it's better to use with templates). E.g. to make a link to an English SAPI4 engine write:
   <a href=&tts0" TTSName = "Adult Male #1 British English (L&H)" TTSText="book" TTSSpeed="-2">book</a>.
   To make a link to an English SAPI5 engine write:

5. If some text is selected in the translation field the Pronounce button pronounces it using the current speech engine.

6. DEMOSTHeNES Speech Composer support for Greek. This software should be installed and file demosend.dll from http://demosthenes.di.uoa.gr should be placed into the Pop-Up Dictionary folder to use this program for synthesizing Greek speech.

7. Context TTS engine rules: if the selected text in the translation field is between tags
   <span TTSMode="1" TTSName="Microsoft Mary" TTSSpeed="-5">your text</span>
   this engine will be selected for pronouncing this text via the Pronounce button.
   Modes: 0 - SAPI4, 1 - SAPI5, 2 - DEMOSTHeNES.

8. Text in Chinese Traditional can be now pronounced using Microsoft Chinese Simplified engine (SAPI5).

9. If a TTS voice is chosen for pronunciation, during test that field will be pronounced, for which the transcription field is shown (Options/Test/Show transcription with: original words or translation).

Changed:

1. The name of the current dictionary is shown in the tooltip of the system tray icon (useful if several dictionaries are open and there several icons in the system tray).

Fixed:

1. Cross search in the translation or transcription fields.

2. Alternative Sorting Rules.

3. IE Navigate sounds are disabled in Pop-Up Dictionary.

4. All quotes (") are replaced with &quot; before applying a template. This replacement is not used otherwise (without using templates) to allow writing html tags with quoted parameters directly into the translation field. We advise you to use templates when possible so that the size of your dictionary does not grow too much. You can still use apostrophe (') to quote parameters of the html tags if you use templates.

5. Pasting did not work if the default system language was Chinese.

Version 4.6 (build 527)

Changed:

1. Longest string match is used now during Sentence word-for-word translation.

2. The translation field is an Internet Explorer browser now. The references now can be links to websites (they are browsed in this field if clicked), to graphic files on a hard disk (e.g. <<img\1.jpg>>) or on a website (e.g. <<http://www.site.com/1.jpg>>), they are shown in the field.

Added:

1. Hot key Shift+F4 for adding a new entry from a not found word.
2. Cross Translation: press F7 to view all the translations found in the chosen dictionary for every translation of the current entry.
   • If one word has several entries in the searched dictionary during Cross Translation, they are all shown one after another.
   • Every tagged string in the translation field of the entry is removed during Cross Translation.
   • Cross translation can be made not only in the entry word field, but also in the field of translation or transcription.
3. New tags:
   [l], [/l] - left to right text reading (Ctrl+L)
   [r], [/r] - right to left text reading (Ctrl+R)
4. Possibility to add sorting rules, editing SortRules.mdb in MS Access 2000, and sort vocabularies, using them.
   • Possibility to add sorting rules for syllabic languages, where the syllables are delimited by special symbols. The list of these symbols can be added in the settings table (e.g. "TibetanSettings" table for the "Tibetan" sort rule) in the delimiters field.
   • Possibility to add sorting rules with symbols to discard. The list of discard symbols can be added in the settings table (e.g. "HebrewSettings" table for the "Hebrew" sort rule) in the field "discard symbols". The dictionary will be sorted by the chosen field, where these symbols will be deleted, and these symbols will be also deleted from the searching string. Thus you can set vowels in Hebrew to be discarded, so that to find words with or without vowels.
   • If for the current field a sort rule is set, which has a list of delimiters, they are taken equal to a space during Sentence word-for-word translation.
   • If you add/update records in a dictionary, where Pop-Up Dictionary sort rule is applied to some field, it is not applied to the updated records. After updating records go to the Sort Rules dialog box and click OK to apply Pop-Up Dictionary sort rule to all the updated records.
   • In an alternative sort rule any combination of symbols can be set as one letter (e.g. in Spanish "ll" is one letter, not 2 letters "l"). The maximum length of 1 letter has to be set in the settings table (e.g. "SpanishSettings" table for the "Spanish" sort rule) in the field "max letter length".
5. Machine Analysis is implemented to find base forms for Danish, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish (requires Internet connection) and Russian (requires installing RusLemmatizer) during Sentence word-for-word translation.
   • The word form with its grammar tags are shown in green before the founded entry in the Found field.
   • Not found words are also listed in the Sentence word-for-word translation.
   • A new option for the Sentence word-for-word translation: do not include learned words into the Alt+Enter function results.
   • Machine analysis settings are saved for every dictionary in its INI-file.
6. If the reference in the Found field is beginning with "http://" it is not pasted into the search field, but is opened in the default web browser.
7. If the reference in the Found field is a link to a graphic file (*.bmp, *.dib, *.ico, *.cur, *.jpg, *.gif, *.wmf, *.emf), then if it is clicked the file is shown in a separate browse window.
8. When a dictionary/vocabulary is created you can choose to allow duplicate entry words or not.
9. "Mark all found words as learned" button on the Found tab for the Alt+Enter search.
10. Template option: select an html-file as a template for the translation field. Every paragraph will be placed into this template instead of %#number_of_paragraph;.
11. a new option "Get the template address from the first line". If this option is ticked off, the template address will be taken from the first line of the translation field, else from the general template address selected for the dictionary.
12. a new macro in templates: %#PATH; - to insert the path of the dictionary. E.g.: "<img src="%#path;%#2;" width="14" height="19">".

Fixed:

1. If the words were tested sequentially without learned words, learned words were tested anyway.
2. Sorting is made faster now.
3. Opening a dictionary failed if pasting an entry into the current dictionary failed before it.
4. Unicode <-> ANSI conversion during pasting.
5. The system tray icon is restored now after an Explorer crash.

Version 4.5 (build 468)

Added:

1. The main window is opened faster from the agent now even if test is enabled there: the testing entries are loaded only after selecting the Test or Slide Show tab.
2. New sort rules: Croatian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Romanian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.
3. Space key in the hotkey dialog box.
4. An option to show several found entries at once and get next found entries portion by portion. The text limit of the Found field is 65535 characters.
5. An option to show transcription in the Found field:
       - near (after) original word;
       - near (before) translation;
       - on a new line;
       - do not show transcription.
6. If you place the cursor inside one entry in the Found field, when you click the Editing >> button, this entry becomes current.
7. If the found entries are shown in one field when you click the << Editing button, the Found field is scrolled to show the current entry.
8. If you place the cursor inside one entry in the Found field, button becomes enabled if this entry has a link to a sound file.
9. The height of the window on the Found tab when all the found entries are shown in one field is saved separately for every dictionary.
10. Sentence word-for-word translation: paste a sentence into the search field and press Alt+Enter. All the words in the sentence will be searched for in the current field of the dictionary. If the found entries are shown in one field, the order of the words will the same that in the sentence.
    Note, that only uninflected words will be found. To be found the field of the entry should consist only one word without features. E.g. "go" is good, "go v." is not taken into consideration.
11. During sentence word-for-word translation the punctuation marks are not taken into consideration.
12. The contents of the Found field can be printed: place the cursor into this field and press Ctrl+P. Only the registered users can use this feature, the number of the entries, that can be printed during the trial period is limited to 30. The contents of the Found field can be formatted right before printing using hot keys: Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+L, Ctrl+R, Ctrl+E, Ctrl+Shift+L, Ctrl+Shift+., Ctrl+Shift+,.

Changed:

1. The Buttons Copy All >> and Move All >> on the Found tab copy and move only found entries into the destination vocabulary.

Fixed:

1. Error 429 after opening the program on some operating systems.
2. Resizing of fields was performed not efficiently.

Version 4.4 (build 432)

Added:

1. New interface languages: Armenian, Korean, Polish and Vietnamese.
2. Font variant into the [General] section of the interface INI-file to choose any font instead of preset Tahoma (to display languages, that do not have a separate ANSI encoding and uses others, like Armenian).
3. Hot keys:
       Ctrl+= - switch on/off subscript for the selected text.
       Ctrl+Shift+= - switch on/off superscript for the selected text.
4. A warning message when the transcription field is hidden, but the dictionary is sorted by it: it offers to sort the dictionary by the original word field.

Changed:

1. The pin button is removed from the caption to the systray pop-up menu. The slide show window is always on top.

Version 4.4 (build 414)

Added:

1. It is possible now to edit entries on the Found tab.
2. F4 - hot key for updating.
3. Any dictionary can have an icon, that will be displayed in the MRU menu of the Open button.
   The icon must have the same name, which the dictionary has.
4. Now every dictionary has an option to enable test or not, as some educational dictionaries are used mainly for testing while others are used only as dictionaries. Large dictionaries with disabled testing are loaded faster and require less memory.
5. The text in the search field is not cleared when a new dictionary or vocabulary is opened. This helps to compare the translations of one word in different vocabularies, which can be dictionaries of different kind: bilingual, explanatory, etc.
6. Now in the history not only the positions of records are saved, but also the sequence of opened dictionaries and vocabularies.
7. If Alt is pressed when a word is double-clicked in any text field, this word is placed to the search field, but is not searched for. This is usually used to open another dictionary to see its translation.
8. If the text is drag'n'dropped into the search field or a link is clicked when Alt is held this text is not searched for.
9. If the word you want to copy exists in the destination vocabulary and you don't replace it with this one, the original word is copied to the search field (w/o searching performed) so that you can open the destination vocabulary and look at this word there (the searching will be automatically performed when you open it).
10. The position and the sizes of the window during Slide Show is saved to the INI-file of the current dictionary.
11. The transparency of the Slide Show window can be set in per cents.
12. The window during Slide Show can be dragged when the mouse cursor is over the text boxes.
13. F3 - the hot key for running Slide Show.
14. During Slide Show the size of the font in any field can be dynamically changed, when the cursor is over the field and the mouse wheel is rotated with Ctrl pressed. Zoom in the slide show is saved for every field in the INI-file and is restored when the slide show is stopped.
15. Ctrl+Del - hot key to check/uncheck the current word as learned.
16. The Main window and the Slide Show window can be set on top separately.

Changed:

1. The interface in Windows XP has now XP style look.
2. The pin button in Windows XP has XP style.
3. During Slide Show only text boxes are visible. To stop slide show click on the Close button of the window or press Esc. The size of the window during Slide Show can be made even less than usual.
4. You can set the time before showing the answer and the next word in Slide Show from 100ms up to 99s.
5. The destination vocabulary is not changed if the selected vocabulary is not the destination one.
6. Slide Show begins with the next word or the answer to the shown one.
7. If the Test tab is selected a new word is chosen for testing.
8. Now it is impossible to select a destination vocabulary if the current entry is edited or added.
9. Now there is a message if it is impossible to copy the current vocabulary to other dictionary.

Version 4.3 (build 350)

Added:

1. Now you can choose either a default keyboard layout for any field or a key combination for activating and deactivating third-party tools for entering text such as Tavultesoft Keyman.
2. Crossword search: if you press Enter (or Ctrl+Enter) in the searching tool, holding the Shift key, the leading "*" and ending "*" are removed, so that you can find the exact mask, e.g. "?a?t?rn".
3. Tip of the day. You can edit tips in the file language\tipofday.mdb. Every table name is the same as interface ini-file (e.g. English, Russian). You can create tips in your own languages if even there is no such interface language. Just create a table in the language\tipofday.mdb with the name of your language. Then you can choose this language from the drop-down list in the "Tip of the Day" window.
4. You can add tooltips for Features.
5. When you click the Edit button, you can update the current entry by clicking the buttons with arrows of the searching tool. The horizontal scroll bar is disabled, but you can switch between it and searching tool during edition.
6. Now Pop-Up Dictionary opens free protected dictionaries (commercial protected dictionaries can be opened only in a registered version).
7. Now required indexes are created, when the dictionary is opened. That's why the indexes can be removed before uploading to the site.
8. When the Editing >> button is pressed, the Edit Panel unwrapping smoothly.
9. You can left-click the Next or Previous buttons of the searching tool and hold the left mouse button pressed to scroll through the entries. Before was one click for one entry.
10. If you press F9 to select the text in the searching tool to enter next word, the current entry is remembered and you can go to it, by clicking the Go to previous entry button, after searching for a new word.
11. The number of the active tab in the Options dialog box is saved.

Changed:

1. The words for testing are loaded only if you select the Test or Slide-Show tab. Consequently dictionaries are loaded faster.

2. The pressed Sort button is half-toned now.

3. The Test check box is visible only if the Only chosen entries option is set.

4. The text direction and alignment are changed immediately now if the arrows are clicked on the fields area.

5. The Test check box; the Editing >> button is visible on the tab Dictionary only in the Advansed Mode.

6. The 2 buttons of text direction in the Options dialog box are replaced with one.

Fixed:

1. Testing was case-sensitive.
2. If the focus was in the Vocabularies drop-down list, hot keys Ctrl+D, Ctrl+T and Ctrl+S didn't work. They opened vocabularies, the first letter of which was D, T or S. Now you can press the first letter of any vocabulary to immediately open it. Also if the list was dropped Esc didn't close it as normal.
3. When a new dictionary or vocabulary is opened the Dictionary tab is selected.
4. Advanced Search by all fields (Ctrl+Enter) didn't work.
5. The desktop is not more flickering when scrolling between the entries. Entries are formatted faster.
6. The controls are displayed and resized correctly even if use a big font (e.g. the size of the system font is increased up to 125%).
7. The [u] and [/u] tags has no effect.
8. Double-clicking for searching worked when an entry was edited.
9. Choosing Ctrl+Ins+Ins or Ctrl+C+C for pop-up dictionary mode worked incorrectly.
10. The notification area (system tray) icon was flashing, when the user was not typing.
11. Pop-up menu on the icon in the Notification Area (System Tray) was not hidden when you clicked outside it.

Added:

1. Hot key <F4> for editing the current entry.

2. Now you can use horizontal scroll bar for scrolling though the entries even if there are more than 65536 entries in the vocabulary.

3. Ctrl+Mouse Wheel for scaling the text in the fields.

8. "Copy this vocabulary to ..." menu under the "Copy To >" button. It allows to copy the current vocabulary to a chosen dictionary.

1. If there are no words chosen for testing an appropriate label will be shown instead of fields.

2. If you use Pop-Up Dictionary as a dictionary only (the test is disabled) Pop-Up Dictionary Agent is running instead of Pop-Up Dictionary, so that the dictionary is loaded only when you open the main window.

3. If the program is disabled, then when you press <Esc> the main window will be not hidden to the system tray (actually not unloaded and the Pop-Up Dictionary Agent won't be loaded), but the previous window will be activated.

Changed:

1. Now Pop-Up Dictionary uses databases of Access 2000, that 's why Unicode support is added.

4. The obsolete pseudo mode of right-to-left text direction is removed.
    

Added:

1. Now only registered users can open and listen to all the entries of the commercial dictionaries (now the first dictionaries are Hebrew-Russian and Hebrew-English).

2. Double-click any word in the current entry when you are on the Dictionary tab and this word will be placed into the searching tool and the translation will be shown if available. This option is convenient for using in explanatory or encyclopedic dictionaries, where the entry word and its explanation are written in one language.

3. The Left and Right Arrows buttons can be used to view previous/next entries during slide show when the focus is on the Start/Stop button.
4. The user can choose now to use a small translation field (255 symbols) or a large one (MEMO-field).
